3/31/23: Mrs. Jane Chamblee, Pontotoc MSU Extension Agent, presented Welcome to the Real World! to our CCR students.

At different stations students learned about money management. They received assigned jobs, spent their income, registered their expenses, and updated the balances of their checkbooks. When participants ran out of money, they got a second—or third—job!

3/31/23: Dr. Ensley Howell of MSU Extension visited and taught College and Career Readiness students how to tie a tie. Very few students already knew that skill. By the end of the classes with Dr. Howell, all of the students could tie a tie. Students had so much fun learning that life skill, together, with their classmates.

The Spring 2023 Comprehensive Needs Assessment is a survey tool used to gather data to determine needs and performance challenges in the district and schools. This survey is also used to set priorities for future action. Your assessment/feedback is vital to the success of our district. Please take a few minutes to complete the survey. You may complete a survey for each of your students in the district.

The Imagine the Possibilities Virtual Career Expo took place from October 1, 2022-February 28, 2023.  PHS Sophomores had the opportunity to watch career videos, listen to podcasts, and access resources to earn points and compete for prizes.  100% of PHS Sophomores created accounts and were able to take part in this event.

3/28/23: To better prepare for the ACT, students at PHS have been taking part in a school-wide initiative called ACTuesday. Each Tuesday, students complete a mini-ACT covering one, or multiple, sections found on the test. The intention of these shortened exams is to increase confidence in particular subjects, expose students to different types of ACT style questions, and create a healthy sense of time and urgency so that students can feel more comfortable on the big test day! Students receive immediate results when they submit and answers/explanations are provided for each question asked.

3/24/23: Mu Alpha Theta presented their 3rd annual mathematics competition on Friday, March 24. Door prizes were given and medals were presented to 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place winners.

3/23/23: This month's topic in Ninth Grade Academy concerns Making Good Choices.  Our guest speaker was Mr. Anthony Bowdry, Training and Development Analyst for Toyota Mississippi.  After an introduction by Coach Armstrong, Mr. Bowdry shared his own personal story of being shot when he was in 9th grade and how that event impacted his life.  He now uses that negative event in his own life to help others make positive change in their lives.

3/22/23: Career Camp Funding is still available at MSU and Ole Miss for students who attend the Pontotoc City School District.  If you know of a student who might be interested, please encourage them to apply with parental permission.  Students in 9th-11th grades can find this information in their email.

3/22/23: Congratulations to PHS Seniors Cadence Griffin and Dorienne Lawrence for being accepted into North Mississippi Medical Center's Mentorship Academy.

The NMMC Mentorship Academy is a model program created by the Mississippi Office of Nursing Workforce. The Academy targets students with interest in nursing or other health care careers. Students will be trained and mentored in a state-approved, 80-clock-hour Certified Nursing Assistant program.

3/21/23: Students in AP Computer Science recently adopted ducks, rubber ducks, that is! The rubber ducks will be used in the debugging process to help students articulate their program and talk out their coding errors.
