5/1/23: Congratulations to the PHS Spain Foundation interns for completing their internships and presenting their final projects. The Spain Foundation Internship Showcase was held at the CREATE Foundation in Tupelo on Thursday. Interns and their host site supervisors were invited to attend. 5/1/23: Mrs. Kelly’s juniors completed some station work to learn about the Stanford Prison Experiment before beginning to read Monster by Walter Dean Myers. In the novel, the main character, Steve Harmon is placed in jail for a crime that he did not commit, and after the prosecutor of the case gives him the label of a "monster," Steve has to prove that he will not, and has not, become the label itself.

5/1/23: Six PHS students attended the MS Young Writers Poetry Festival last Friday at MSU. They created poems during the interactive poetry session and heard from the 2022 Southern Regional Youth Poet Laureate, Isabella Ramirez. One of the highlights of the day was hearing K-12th grade winners read their My Town poem. Each student received an anthology of poetry containing their poem and the other student poems from across the state.

4/26/23: April's Freshman Academy activity involved several "guest speakers" who were already familiar to the Freshmen. Nine of the PHS Seniors presented their Spain Foundation Internship presentations in freshman classes.  The seniors shared where they took part in internships, the tasks they performed, what they learned from their experiences, and their next steps/future plans.

4/26/23: Mr. Dixon's and Mr. Tipler's CCR students gained some great interviewing experience through taking part in mock interviews.  Each student was able to  practice the skills they have been learning in class by dressing professionally, answering interview questions, asking questions of their interviewer, practicing their interviewing etiquette and body language, and even following up with a thank you email to their interviewer.

4/25/23: Art 2 students recently studied environmental art and how our environment can change our perspectives and enrich our lives. They have started work on a mural outside of PASS this week.

4/24/23: In the most recent Freshman Academy presentation, Mr. Anthony Bowdry of Toyota Mississippi visited and spoke to students concerning making good decisions. A question was posed by Mr. Bowdry and Alaysia Thomas answered it correctly. Alaysia was rewarded with a gift bag filled with goodies from Toyota. Congratulations, Alaysia!

4/21/23: The ICC Steel Drum Ensemble performed for the PHS Band on Thursday, April 20.

4/21/23: Mrs. Kelly’s English III Class completed a poetry analysis’ gallery walk this week while learning about Realism and Naturalism Poetry. They worked together to break down several poems, and then they walked around answering questions about the poems, drawing locations based on the descriptions from the poems, and solving figurative language riddles. Then they wrapped up the mini unit by writing their own poems inspired by the major themes and ideas from these famous Realism and Naturalism poems.

4/19/23: The Pontotoc County Chamber/Main Street Association sponsored a Graduate Employment for all seniors in the Pontotoc City and County Schools on April 18th at the First Baptist Church Gym in Pontotoc.  Many businesses and industries were on hand to inform students about local jobs that are available to them for long term employment, summer employment, or employment while they attend college. Training options were also highlighted.
