10/23/23: PHS will celebrate being drug free next week!

10/18/23: October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month. PHS would like to raise awareness and help support our own PHS teacher, Mrs Nita Wilgus, who is currently undergoing treatment. We will be selling white and pink long sleeve cotton shirts. Paper forms will be sent home to students. All money raised will be donated to Mrs. Wilgus. Please consider supporting such a great cause! Thank you and Go Warriors!

10/18/23: Students' performance on the ACT is highly important. ACT scores affect senior leave, early graduation, high school placement, merit-based scholarships, college admissions, internships and apprenticeship placements. Students can prepare for the test and improve previous scores by PRACTICING. All juniors received practice workbooks to help them prepare. The PHS Library also has resources available for checkout. Students should arrive at school on time with a FULLY CHARGED chromebook to take the test.

10/19/23: Pontotoc graduate, Mr. Tremaine Frison, visited with students to talk about his career in law enforcement as a detective. He shared with our students the importance of being productive with free time that is given, "working your soft skills," and the importance of networking. He also challenged students in College and Career Readiness to make their community better by respecting each other in the classroom and eventually in the workforce. We thank Mr. Frison for visiting with our students.

10/13/23: As part of National Hispanic Heritage Month, students in Ms. Pittman's US History classroom learned about the contributions of Latin Americans during WWII. Students enjoyed a virtual field trip that was hosted by the National WWII Museum in New Orleans titled Los Veteranos: Latinos during WWII.

10/13/23: Mr. Johnny Anderson, HR Director for Albany Industries, visited with College and Career Readiness students and talked to them about what it takes to be successful in the workforce. He focused on soft skills and told students how to make a good impression, including the 3 A's - Attitude, Actions, and Appearance. He also shared information about Albany Industries and how to apply for part time and full time employment.

10/13/23: PHS is proud to highlight our NEMYF Board Members, MacKenzie McGuirt, Lennon Whitehead and Anna Reid Crane. They are serving on the Northeast Mississippi Youth Foundation Board for 2023-2024. The board typically consists of around 50 students from among the 17 counties that the CREATE Foundation serves. During the fall semester, students focus some of their energy on fundraising to build the NEMYF endowment. Then in the spring, the students submit grant ideas from their home counties, vote on which grants to fund, organize a press conference, and announce how they spent the earnings from their endowment.

10/5/23: On Tuesday this week, MUW hosted an all girls math competition for Sonia Kovalevsky Day. PHS sent several students to compete. After the girls tested they attended groups sessions and learned about holograms and worked lots of sudoku puzzles.

10/4/23: On October 3rd, the PHS Juniors and Seniors had an opportunity to attend the Pontotoc County College and Career Fair, organized by the Pontotoc Ridge Career and Technology Center. The event was held at the Gateway Pavilion in Pontotoc. Representatives from over 40 colleges, trade and technical schools, businesses, and industries were on hand to provide information to students and answer their questions about post-secondary education, training, and career pathways to employment.
