12/8/23: Dr. Jay Allen, President of Itawamba Community College visited PHS and spoke to seniors about the ICC environment and discussed the types of opportunities that ICC has to offer students. He encouraged them to job shadow in different career fields and to come and visit ICC and tour the campuses. Ultimately, he invited them to become a part of the ICC family.

Also visiting were Chloe Hester, ICC recruiter, and some of the ICC Indian Delegates. It was great to have Abi Grace Warren on campus and PHS graduates Ella Huey and Jasmier Coleman back on campus to speak about the positive attributes of ICC.

12/8/23: Sponsors Mr. Varnon and Mrs. Parman took the PHS Student Council shopping for the Angel Tree at the mall this week. The students enjoyed the experience of personally helping our Pontotoc community and having the opportunity to bring joy to others!

12/6/23: On November 29th Human Resources/Corporate Affairs Analyst and Director of the Toyota "Creating Your Future Internship" Derric Morrison came and spent time with our students. Mr. Morrison informed our students about the internship. Pontotoc High School has had several students in the past participate in this internship as well as two students Jatazia Hoover and Talen Berry, who are participating currently. Mr. Morrison also shared information about the many career opportunities that TMMS has to offer, the importance of making a good first impression, and how being committed to having good soft skills can lead to elevation in the workforce. We thank Mr. Morrison for taking time out to inform and encourage our students.

12/5/23: Congratulations to the Fall 2023 Frank K. Spain Foundation interns from PHS for completing their internships and presenting their final projects. The Spain Foundation Internship Showcase was held at the CREATE Foundation in Tupelo on December 4th at 4:00 p.m. Averi Bridgman was supervised on her internship by Brandy Easterling at NMMC Pontotoc Wellness Center and Fabiola Chaperno was supervised on her internship by Jana Call at RedMed Urgent Clinic of Pontotoc. These young ladies represented PHS well at the Spain Foundation Internship Showcase and did a great job presenting information concerning the activities they took part in during their internship experiences.

12/4/23: The Northeast MS Youth Foundation board members selected to support the Regional Rehabilitation Center as one of the nonprofits for their December service project, They brought board games and office supplies to their monthly meeting to support therapy provided at Regional Rehab and their guest speaker for the meeting was RRC's Director, Mr. Robby Parman. PHS students Lennon Whitehead, MacKenzie McGuirt and Anna Reid Crane serve on the Northeast Mississippi Youth Foundation Board, which is made up of 65 students representing 16 counties in NEMS and 32 high schools. They are shown with other NEMYF board members at their December board member meeting, presenting the items to Mr. Parman.

12/1/23: Mrs. Bean’s Algebra 2 students recently studied statistics and probability. They surveyed people by asking random questions. They also performed experimental probability in classroom. They used google sheets to create graphs and prepared a slideshow of their findings. They then presented their findings to their class.

12/1/23: Mr. Dixon's and Mr. Tipler's CCR students gained some great interviewing experience through taking part in mock interviews.  Each student was able to  practice the skills they have been learning in class by dressing professionally, presenting their resume, answering interview questions, asking questions of their interviewer, practicing their interviewing etiquette and body language, and even following up with a thank you email to their interviewer.

11/29/23: Ninety-four PHS Sophomores have taken part in YouScience activities this semester and the other half of the class will participate in YouScience activities in the spring. Those who have participated in YouScience activities this semester created ornaments for the career coach office's Christmas tree. Each ornament has the Sophomore student's name on one side and their own unique qualities that can help them shine in the workforce on the other.
