April 14, 2022
Mrs. Kelly’s SREB class is reading the book “Monster” by Walter Dean Myers. In the book, a boy named Steve Harmon is put on trial for a crime that he says he did not commit. Her class created blackout poetry as a way to express how Steve is feeling at this point of the book during the trial, and how he cannot express what he is feeling in the court system. Overall the students did an amazing job depicting the emotion Steve has in the novel through their poems!

April 12, 2022
Last week PHS physics students travelled to Ole Miss to compete in the 15th annual catapult competition. Four PHS teams of 4 students each designed and built a catapult that would launch tennis balls at various targets. Team BWOMP (Dawson Suggs, Jeremy Ray, David Metcafe, and Rob Ferguson) came home with the first place trophy for Best Design.

We had several great speakers last week in CCR classes. Airman Abby Feathers and Staff Sergeant Marian Cooper spoke about career opportunities in the Air Force. Abby specializes in security forces, and Staff Sergeant Cooper specialized in logistics before becoming a recruiter. Dave Kitchens and Lathe Ward of Three Rivers also visited.  They spoke about apprenticeships and Individual Training Accounts for students pursuing careers in high demand fields.  Mr. Ward also gave information about his journey to becoming a computer programmer.

Mrs. Bean's algebra 3 students teamed up for a trigonometry test. They had to find the missing sides and angles of three triangles using the Laws of Sines and Cosines. They used chalk, a protractor, and tape measure to create the triangles in the parking lot.

The CREATE Foundation's Prize Patrol visited Pontotoc High School on Thursday and delivered Apple product prizes to the Virtual Imagine the Possibilities Career Expo prize drawing winners.  PHS prize drawing winners and the prizes they won are: Izzy Park - Beats Solo3 Wireless Headphones; Luke Hammer - iPad Air; Landon Johnson - MacBook Air

Before performing at the MIA Championships in Oxford Friday afternoon, the PHS indoor percussion performed their show, "UN", to students at break.  The indoor drumline dazzled their audience, performing this challenging, highly entertaining show which the student body appreciated with loud applause.

Mrs. Kelly's SREB class did a gallery walk to learn about the Stanford Prison Experiment as an introduction to their unit on the book “Monster” by Walter Dean Meyers.
