College and Career Fair

10/13/22: The annual county-wide College and Career Fair for juniors and seniors is Tuesday night, October 18th from 5:00-7:00 p.m. at the MSU Extension Building at 402 C.J. Hardin Drive, Pontotoc, MS. High school juniors, seniors and their parents are invited and encouraged to attend. There will be many college recruiters, military recruiters and representatives from various career fields there to share information with students and parents. Please make plans to attend and receive important information concerning post-secondary options.


10/12/22: Some of Mr. Dixon's College and Career Readiness students who are interested in healthcare made good use of some of their free time during their Fall Break.  They, along with Mrs. Dale, toured the Cardiac Cath Lab and Radiology Departments at North Mississippi Medical Center to learn more about careers in nursing, sonography, and radiologic technology within these departments.

Workforce Wednesday

10/6/22: We welcomed Anna Crudup, North Mississippi Health Services recruiter, as this week's Workforce Wednesday Speaker.  Ms. Crudup, who is a proud PHS graduate, spoke about opportunities available through North Mississippi Medical Center locations.  She talked about professional healthcare and administrative careers which require a degree as well as careers students can go into right after high school like environmental services, food and nutrition, facility operations, nursing assistant, supply process distribution, and security.

Math Tournament Winners

10/4/22: PHS girls did an outstanding job competing in a math tournament at Mississippi University for Women on October 3.
2nd Place overall - Kassandra Ramirez;
3rd Place Overall - Cheyenne Elgin;
4th Place Overall - (tie) Laura Beth Calvert and Layla Tutor;
Top Junior Score - Anna Reid Crane;
Top Sophomore Score - Cheyenne Elgin;
Won Candy - Maggie Kimble, Aaniyah Johnson, and Emeri Roberts

Putting the "Fun" in Functions

10/3/22: Mrs. Smith’s Algebra 1 class got to enjoy the beautiful fall weather while practicing writing linear functions. In groups of two, students worked to solve riddles as they learned these math skills.

Escape Room Review

10/3/22: Mrs. Kelly’s English 3 class completed an escape room to review for their Crucible Unit Test. They had to race against each other to answer the questions correctly, and if they received an incorrect answer, they received a 30 second penalty. It was definitely a fun way to review on a Friday afternoon!

Career Expo Kick-Off is October 1st

9/30/22: October 1st is the 2022 Virtual Imagine the Possibilities Career Expo Kick-Off! PHS students, parents, educators and community members will have access to the virtual Imagine the Possibilities Career Expo, which is a great tool for career exploration.  The Imagine the Possibilities Career Expo virtual experience exposes students to 18 potential career pathways through an intro video, mentor for a minute clips, podcasts, and other resources.

Class of 2023

9/28/22: Seniors and Juniors graduating in May met with the Balfour representative today and received CAP & GOWN ORDER FORMS as well as a packet of other items available for purchase. Mr. Greg will return next Wed., October 5 to pick up orders. Seniors also started the FAFSA process today when they met with the counselor Kim Austin and created Federal Student Aid IDs. FAFSA opens on October 1. Anyone planning to go to Community College, University, or Trade School must fill out a FAFSA.

Celebrating Hispanic Heritage Month

9/29/22: Mrs. Polly's Spanish I and II students created artwork to display around the high school campus celebrating Hispanic Heritage Month. Each group worked together to bring awareness to the positive influences and contributions of Hispanic Americans as they have enriched our country. Hispanic Heritage Month is recognized each year, Sept. 15-October 15.

Juniors to take ACT on October 18, Seniors November 1

9/28/22: Students' performance on the ACT is highly important. ACT scores affects senior leave, early graduation, high school placement, merit-based scholarships, college admissions, internships and apprenticeship placements. Students can prepare for the test and improve previous scores by PRACTICING. The PHS Library has resources available for checkout. Click the link for online resources.
